A Modern Fairy Tale: The Toad, Evil Spirit, and little Jimmy
Jimmy was back and safe in his parents care but he will never be the same little boy ever again. "He's been through so much already and need his parents' attention", thought the magical toad from outside the window.
His name was Hubert and was once a great and nobel wizard but had fallen under an evil spirit's curse that took his soul and spit it out into outer space. For hundreds of years he was nothing more than a floating soul looking for his way back home until he finally made it back to Earth. When his soul made it back he looked for a recently dead creature to take his shell or body, he didn't have a lot of energy so he had to settle for a small animal. He decided to choose a magical toad because he knew that normal humans often used this kind of toad to go to dream states and contact their own spirits. After this, the magical toad swore to get his revenge and destroy the evil spirit who did this to him.
Little Jimmy Smithers had always had a vivid imagination. He was the youngest of three from a wealthy family. His two older brothers had left home at an early age to escape their parents neglectfulness. Jimmy was a lonesome boy, always playing by himself and making up imaginary friends. Both his mother and father were successful business people and their jobs were their number one priority. The only adult Jimmy was fond of was the family maid, Milagros. She had taken care of Jimmy since he was a baby.
Now, the Smithers lived in a large, old, two-story house in the edge of the city. The house connected to a forest that was full of frogs, toads, and all kind of wildlife.
One cold, rainy, winter day a ghoulish looking man came to the front door and knocked six times. Milagros opened the door and saw a tall man covered in a long black robe and wearing a black hat, he resembled a priest or a someone who'd come with bad news. Meanwhile, Jimmy was under the table playing one of his made up games when he saw Milagros collapse and hit the floor like a bag of potatoes. Frightened Jimmy hid under the tablecloth and watched the man perform a sort of ritual with an empty bottle. Milagros soul was being summoned into the bottle. Little Jimmy, terrified, hid and didn't make a sound for he knew that if he did he'd be next.
When Jimmy's parents came back from work they were shocked and terrified to see their maid dead near their front door. The doctors attributed her death to heart attack because of her old age but Jimmy knew better. He begged his parents to believe him and cried and cried. Mr. and Mrs. Smithers thought he was just traumatized and sent him to see a shrink, he talked but only repeated his original story. He was then diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic and was forced to stay in the mental clinic for children near his home.
His first night in the clinic was terrifying for Jimmy. He kept imagining seeing the shadowy man. He managed to relax and fall asleep but as soon as he did he entered a terrible nightmare controlled by the same evil man that killed Milagros. He was running through a dark forest in the dream and the trees began to morph into the evil spirit's face. The trees closed in on him and started coming closer. It was all over for Jimmy until Hubert the magical toad appears as a giant toad. With a quick lick Hubert gets Jimmy and places him in his mouth as he fights the evil spirit. After a lot of shaking and movement the toad spits out Jimmy. He is covered in slime and wipes his eyes, Hubert is back to his original wizard shape. He explains to Jimmy all that has happened and knock him out with some dust.
Jimmy wakes up in his room to the sound of his Ipod alarm. His parents are looking at him with a surprised face, they tell him they both had dreams in which an entity tells them to be more attentive and loving towards their son. Jimmy is ecstatic but still a bit confused at everything that has happened. He questions if he is still in a dream and what is real. But then he hears a loud croaking window and realizes everything is going to be just fine.
